Klaipėda, Lithuania’s port city on the Baltic Sea, is the third largest town in the country. It is located on the southern seashore of Baltic Sea connecting the Curonian lagoon with the sea.

Old Town is situated on the left side of the river Dane, where ruins of the castle Memelburg are left at the estuary. The Old town, with its beautiful Teatro Square is very distinctive and inviting.

The town has a university, music and drama theatres, museums, libraries, many historical and cultural monuments.

At present Klaipėda is not only one of the largest fishing ports on the Baltic Sea, but is also major cultural centre of Lithuania. Among the museums of Klaipėda, Maritime Museum and Aquarium with Dolphinarium, deserves special attention as a large number of exhibits from many seas and oceans around the world can be found here.

Klaipėda is an important sea transport centre with an international ferry port, oil export, commercial and fishing port, shipbuilding and ship-repairing, fish and food processing and wood furniture industries.
