Kaunas is the second largest industrial, scientific and cultural centre of Lithuania. Kaunas city and the Old Town, where many interesting places can be visited, can be found, is located at the confluence of the Nemunas and the Neris rivers. First written remarks about Kaunas date back to 1361. The ruins of Kaunas Castle, built in 13 th century are near the confluence of Nemunas and Neris. Kaunas is surrounded by the remains of the circle of nine forts. One of the forts – the Ninth Fort – is the museum of the Second World War. - The Devil’s Museum. A famous collection of thousands of devils from all over the world of different shapes and sizes can be found here.
- National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum.a collection of paintings and graphics by M.K Čiurlionis alongside with Lithuanian art, folk sculpture and paintings are exposed in the museum.
- Pa žaislis Monastery and church is the largest monastery complex in Lithuania, and one of the most magnificent examples of Italian baroque architecture in Eastern Europe.
- The Basilica, the largest Gothic building in Lithuania, with a late Baroque interior.
- The massive Neo-Byzantine church of St. Michael the Archangel.

- Rumšiškės, situated near Kaunas is best known for the excellent open-air ethnographic museum. Lithuanian rural life is shown in a vast collection of authentic buildings where Lithuanian people used to live and work.
The museum represents the main ethnographic regions of Lithuania: Aukštaitija, Žemaitija, Dzūkija and Suvalkija.
